
Biography
Samantha I. Ellis practices at the trial and appellate level in state and federal court, focusing exclusively on civil litigation. Her practice encompasses a variety of civil litigation matters from wrongful death and serious personal injury cases to business and contract disputes. Mrs. Ellis is a graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law where she graduated with a concentration in Advocacy and Dispute Resolution. To advance her trial skills, Mrs. Ellis has also graduated from the American Inns of Court National Advocacy Trial Program held in Washington, DC (2019) and the American Board of Trial Advocates National Trial College in New Haven, CT (2023). In 2023, Mrs. Ellis was invited to train and completed training under Barristers in London, UK to become an advocacy trainer / instructor through the American Inns of Court. Mrs. Ellis regularly presents CLEs on civil litigation as well as other topics of interest in the legal industry. In May of 2025, Mrs. Ellis was appointed by Governor Bill Lee to serve on the Tennessee Board of Appeals, which plays a vital role in resolving employment disputes by hearing appeals involving preferred service state employees.
After graduating from the Webb School of Knoxville, Mrs. Ellis attended the University of Tennessee as part of the Chancellor’s Honors program. While completing her undergraduate degree, she completed an honors thesis in Psychology that was later published. In 2014, she graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Honors Psychology and a minor in Statistics.
Upon receiving her B.A. degree in Psychology, Mrs. Ellis attended the University of Tennessee College of Law. During this time, she served as an Articles & Acquisition Editor for the Tennessee Law Review and participated in the College of Law’s Advocacy and Expungement clinics. She graduated magna cum laude with a concentration in Advocacy and Dispute Resolution. Prior to joining RJS as an attorney, Mrs. Ellis worked for the firm as a law clerk for two years. Mrs. Ellis has called Knoxville her home since 2007. She and her husband have one daughter.
Mrs. Ellis serves her community through several legal organizations throughout Tennessee. She has served on the Long-Range Planning Committee and since 2022, she has been appointed to serve as the East Tennessee Continuing Legal Education Chair for the Tennessee Bar Association’s Young Lawyer’s Division where she assists in organizing and presenting continuing legal education programs for attorneys across the state. In 2023 and 2024, Mrs. Ellis was awarded the President’s Award by the Tennessee Bar Association Young Lawyers’ Division for her service. She also serves as the Chair of the TBA’s Law Office Technology/Management Section, is a member of the Knoxville Bar Association’s Law Office Tech Committee, and as a member of the Hamilton Burnett Chapter of the American Inns of Court.
